We learned about a contemporary self-taught artist from Brazil, Romero Britto. His work is pop-inspired, bright. colorful, and very exciting. Students loved learning about him and were enthusiastic to hear about a contemporary artist who has found a lot of success in his life- an example of someone who made fine art a viable career option. Check out some of Britto's website here: http://www.britto.com/front/index
Britto with one of his sculptures.
We discussed style characteristics of Britto's work, and then we learned what a landscape is- and how that is different from a portrait, seascape, or cityscape. Sometimes, however, these art formats can blend!
